New College Durham is absolutely thrilled to share the exciting news that we've been nominated for not one, but two prestigious regional awards! The BUSINESSiQ Awards truly celebrate the fantastic teamwork and support that our region is known for, along with the amazing business success we’re all generating together.
We’re delighted to announce that the college has been shortlisted in two categories, recognising our outstanding efforts in Employee Health & Wellbeing and Diversity and Inclusion.
What a year it has been for NCD! We’ve achieved remarkable success with fantastic student outcomes, award-winning students, staff, and initiatives, alongside financial growth, campus expansion, and pioneering projects. All of this wonderful progress enables us to continue making a significant impact on individuals, businesses, and our region.
Health and wellbeing are key priorities for us, deeply embedded in our core values of respect and inclusion. We’ve embarked on a 5-year journey, in partnership with Pioneering Care Partnership, to roll out initiatives aimed at achieving ‘Better Health at Work’.
Recently, we had the pleasure of receiving feedback from an independent assessor for Better Health at Work:
“It is clear to see that they [NCD] have truly embraced the ethos of Health and Wellbeing in the workplace and considered how the environment impacts upon staff wellbeing, making a number of changes aligned to the feedback received. It was a pleasure to see the progress that they had made.”
We’re also proud to have partnered with wonderful community organisations such as Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre (SBIC) and Nur Ladies Fitness Centre Middlesbrough (Nur) to reach underrepresented groups. We’re extending education beyond traditional classrooms and into diverse communities! Training is delivered in accessible community settings like mosques and community centres, transforming access to education for those who might otherwise be left out. By bringing education into community settings, we’re breaking down barriers like transportation issues and cultural differences, making learning opportunities more accessible and inviting.
Winners will be announced in early April, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned!
