New College Durham welcomed Durham Constabulary on campus again this week as part of the ongoing effort to educate students about the dangers of drug involvement. Police officers and sniffer dogs were present on campus for a day dedicated to raising awareness and promoting prevention.
Students had the opportunity to interact with police officers and their canine companions, gaining valuable insights into the methods employed in drug detection and law enforcement.
The joint initiative is aimed at fostering a safe and drug-free environment within the college community and is part of both institutions’ commitment to student welfare. By engaging students directly and providing them with essential information, resources, and support, the partnership seeks to empower young individuals to make informed choices and steer clear of the risks associated with substance abuse.
Andy Broadbent, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of New College Durham, commented: "We are delighted to once again collaborate with Durham Constabulary to educate and protect our students. By working together, we can effectively address the issue of drug involvement among young people and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to make positive choices for their futures."
The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of partnerships between educational institutions and law enforcement agencies in tackling difficult social issues such as drug abuse. New College Durham and Durham Constabulary remain committed to continued collaboration in promoting a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
